Amazon Prime Day Sale To Take Place In India On August 6-7; U.S. Sale Postponed
The COVID-19 pandemic has derailed plans for individuals and organizations alike around the world. Now, Amazon has confirmed that their annual Prime Day sale that usually happens in July has been postponed. While the Prime Day sale is now happening in India on August 6 and August 7, it’s been postponed in the US until later this year.
Amazon’s Prime Day sale is an annual sale that sees Amazon gather and present some of the best deals available online. With the attractive sale prices, Prime Day attracts a lot of attention and clocks big sale numbers too.
Last year’s Amazon Prime Day Sale that took place in 18 markets over a period of two days in July saw Amazon sell a total of 175 million items that together clocked in estimated sales of $5.8 billion.
But in the wake of the pandemic, Amazon has had to push the sale and is now – for the first time – organizing Prime Day sales on different days in different markets. While Amazon India will see the sale taking place on August 6 and 7, the Prime Day sale in the US will be “later than usual”. As for other markets such as U.A.E, UK, Japan, Netherlands, and Spain, there’s no word on when the Prime Day sale will take place.
Rumours of Amazon having to push the Prime Day sale have been doing rounds since as early as April and can now finally be put to rest after this announcement.
In a normal year, Prime Day sale would’ve been more needed than it is in 2020. The outbreak of COVID-19 has already surged e-commerce activity around the globe. With people not being able (or being afraid) to step out, they’ve had to resort to the services of e-commerce players.
In India, the wake of the pandemic put a lot of strain on e-commerce providers who were struggling to meet the demands of essential products such as groceries and safety masks. The growing customer demand and lack of availability of manpower led the company to stop selling non-essential items too. Back in May Amazon announced about 50,000 temporary jobs in India to meet the surge in online demand. Shortly after, in July, Amazon India announced over 20,000 seasonal jobs in its customer service department.
But now that we have a confirmed date for the Prime Day sale in India, we can expect to know more about what the sale has to offer in the coming weeks.
