‘Hoops’ Teaser: Jake Johnson Is A Foul-Mouthed Basketball Coach In Netflix’s Animated Comedy

0 3

I am a huge fan of animated movies and TV shows. You can give me anything via the animated medium, I am going to lap it up. I am not even kidding. I don’t watch basketball. I have never played basketball. I don’t know anything about basketball other than the simple fact that you have to put the ball through the hoop to score. And yet, since the game is going to presented as an animated comedy series by Netflix called Hoops, I am excited.

Okay, to be honest, that’s not the only reason I am excited about Hoops. I really want to watch Jake Johnson using his voice-acting skills again after Lego Jurassic World, Bojack Horseman, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This time he’ll be playing a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who thinks that if he’s able to beat the team into shape, he’ll be able to turn his miserable life around. However, unlike most basketball stories, he’s no good himself as he spends the teaser saying “f*ck” more times than actually putting the basketball through the hoop.

According to Indiewire, Johnson’s Ben will be accompanied by Rob Riggle who’ll be voicing Barry Hopkins, Ben’s father and a former pro athlete-turned steakhouse owner who has a strained relationship with his son. Natasha Leggero will be seen as Shannon, Ben’s estranged wife, who has a history of impulsive behaviour but has straightened sh*t up after leaving Ben. Ron Funches will play Ben’s best friend and a life coach i.e. the polar opposite of Ben. And then there’s Cleo King as Ben’s boss and A.D. Miles as Matty, a player in Ben’s team.

Hoops is creative and executive produced by Ben Hoffman, Johnson, Seth Cohen, M. Dickson, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It will release on Netflix on August 21.
