Just yesterday, PM Modi had a meeting with all the Chief Ministers of the country seeking their opinion on the lockdown as India crosses the 70,000 COVID-19 cases mark. This is the fifth meeting of this kind with state ministers and as per reports in The Indian Express, State CMs have been asked for blueprints of their lockdown exit strategy by May 15. While lockdown rules could be eased, it looks like states will have specific guidelines in accordance with the spreading of the virus.
On March 24, 2020 PM Modi announced that the country will go into 21-day complete lockdown to curb the virus outbreaks. This lockdown was then extended to May 3 after another announcement of the Prime Minister. The second lockdown was further extended for two more weeks till May 17. Post-May 3, the lockdown was partially relaxed for certain industries and districts. The guidelines still call for social distancing.
India has 46,008 active cases and 2,293 deaths on May 12 at the time of writing this article as per the calculations of the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs.
