‘Rogue’ Trailer: Megan Fox’s Action-Packed Mission Is Marred By A Lioness With Bad CGI
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be aware of how Hollywood dealt Megan Fox one of the worst hands of all time and Michael Bay had a lot to do with it. However, Fox never gave up and has been consistently doing movies and TV shows. So, I was low-key excited that she’s delivering another film in the action genre with Rogue. But all that excitement kind of flew out of the window as soon as I saw a big, burly, and extremely badly CGI’d lioness prancing around in the trailer.
The M.J. Bassett directorial is about a group of White mercenaries going into Africa to extract a bunch of hostages. Things go south very soon as they not only have to face the locals there, but also some roided lionesses. There are some regular lions. But the one who leads the pack is certainly is a hybrid of very bad ideas. I think it is supposed to mirror Fox’s character who is leading a pack of people. However, it is really tough to see any kind of metaphor through that CGI. I mean if you really watch the trailer, you’ll see that even the actors are not fully convinced that the lioness is scary.
To be honest, Rogue has some great practical action going on in there. The explosions look real enough. The wire work looks real enough. The gun combat looks real enough, although it is hidden under a ton of bad editing. And it looks like Fox and the rest of the cast have done a decent job in terms of acting. But the lioness? Eugh! I seriously want to sit down with the producers, director, writers, and the VFX team to understand how they arrived at the decision to make the movie’s big bad a CGI lioness. I really do.
Rogue arrives on digital and on demand on August 28.
