‘Shakuntala Devi’: ‘Paheli’ Song Sums Up The Complex Bond Between Vidya Balan and Sanya Malhotra
Fans can hardly wait for the Shakuntala Devi biopic for obvious reasons! But let’s admit it – mostly, because it stars critically acclaimed Bollywood actress Vidya Balan who, in my humble opinion, can turn anything watchable and even admirable. And the best part is that she is not alone; she is accompanied by a bevy of notable and talented co-stars including Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta. In fact, Sanya plays the pivotal role of Shakuntala Devi’s daughter Anupama Banerji. And while the trailer did give us an insight into their complex yet endearing bond, the new song Paheli sumps up their relationship perfectly.
From going cycling in the meadows and baking cupcakes to squabbling over maths, the song sung by the melodious Shreya Ghosal lives up to the expectations in showcasing every mother-daughter duo ever. While the lyrics have been penned by Priya Saraiya, the words have been given a newer meaning by Sachin – Jigar with their soulful composition.
Earlier, Anupama Banerji had spoken about the Anu Menon directorial and had said, “I am also glad that I had the opportunity to significantly input into the development of the script – because while my mother’s love and passion for maths is well-known, she was also multifaceted – always wanting to do new things, travel to new places, live life to the fullest! I’m happy that the film has managed to capture her energy, laughter and zest for life! I am looking forward to the film’s release and I am certain that viewers will enjoy learning so much more about my mother.”
Shakunatala Devi, bankrolled by Sony Pictures Networks India and Vikram Malhotra under his banner Abundantia Entertainment, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 31.
