Remember when the pandemic hit and we were worried about highly-anticipating movies (among other major things)? It was then when the makers of Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi did Bollywood film-lovers a solid and announced that the biopic on ‘Human computer’ Shakuntala Devi will premiere on Amazon Prime. It was one of the first films to be resized for the small screens and while it wasn’t revolutionary, it sure was reassuring. I mean, who doesn’t want to see Vidya Balan, the critically acclaimed actress known for her work in ‘Tumhari Sulu’, ‘Kahaani’ and more, to reprise the titular role?

Yeah, the wait suddenly seems hard but don’t worry, the trailer will drop tomorrow on July 15 and the film will start streaming from July 31. The streamer even revealed the motion poster of the much-awaited biographical drama that introduces us to the math wizard’s best friend – no points for guessing – mathematics! And if that is any indication, the star is all set to make our head spin with complex calculations. She even took to social media to share the same and wrote, “Get ready to meet the genius! Trailer out tomorrow. Meet #ShakuntalaDeviOnPrime July 31, on @PrimeVideoIN”

In an earlier interview, according to News 18, Vidya had opened up about doing the film and said, “I am extremely excited to play the ‘human computer’ Shakuntala Devi on the big screen. She was truly someone who embraced her individuality, had a strong feminist voice and braved many a naysayer to reach the pinnacle of success. But what truly fascinates me is that you wouldn’t normally associate a fun person with math…and she completely turns that perception on its head.”

If you’re not in the know, ‘Shakuntala Devi’ also features Sanya Malhotra as Shakuntala Devi’s daughter, Amit Sadh, and Jisshu Sengupta. And is written by Anu Menon, along with Nayanika Mahtani. It has been directed by Anu Menon (Waiting, Four More Shots Please S1) and produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Vikram Malhotra (Abundantia Entertainment).
