Taika Waititi Teases ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Is Going To Be “Very Romantic”
Thor: Love and Thunder is one of the biggest movies coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi is all set to helm the film and he has spent over a year writing parts of the script which is now complete. Starring Natalie Portman as Jane Foster aka Mighty Thor, the film’s title announcement was enough to inspire speculations and expect sparks to fly between Jane and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and now, we have confirmation that we’ll see romance in the movie.
Director Taika Waititi who is fresh off his history-making Jojo Rabbit Academy Award win, in a chat with BBC shed some light on the Marvel film’s script. Talking about developments on the film’s writing, Waititi said, “It is so insane and it’s also very romantic. I’m into romances now. I just want to make a romance. I just want to make something that I’ve never done or never cared for. I would like to attack something like that.”
Now, given the title, it was fairly obvious that there would be a romantic angle. But apart from the idea of Jane and Thor rekindling their romance, the film will see the writer-director’s very first romantic plot which is quite an inspired new choice for his filmography. Taika said that the script is finished, it took over a year and he’ll be going over it again this week itself. In other scripting news, he also revealed that he has started work on the Star Wars movie that he’s writing. This is extremely exciting and gives the Lucasfilm franchise a promising next chapter.
Thor: Love and Thunder comes as the director’s next offering and his comeback in the MCU after the groundbreaking hit that Thor: Ragnarok starring Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo was. So far we know that the film’s plot revolves around Jane Foster’s time as Mighty Thor (read: not lady Thor or female Thor, capisce?). Initially, comic book fans had a hunch that the upcoming film will also have Jane’s cancer arc but the director has since confirmed that although the comic run was an inspiration and influence for the first few drafts, the arc might not make it in the film. Taika is often credited for reinventing the tone of Thor movies and the comic book movie universe in general, so it isn’t a stretch to expect that he is well on his way to deliver another fresh spectacular hit.
Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to get a theatrical release in 2022.
